What is Echinacea Purpurea?
Also known as the purple coneflower, Echinacea purpurea is one of nine herbaceous flowering plant species of the family Asteraceae. This drought-tolerant perennial can be found growing in the wild throughout North America and is also a popular addition to cultivated flower beds. This particular species of echinacea grows to 1.2 m (47 inches) tall and 0.5 m (20 inches) wide at maturity. E. purpurea is propagated from seeds or vegetatively.
Echinacea Purpurea – The Most Common Echinacea Plant
Echinacea purpurea, one of the most studied of all alternative herbal medicines, is believed to diminish symptoms associated with colds and flus by increasing the activity of the immune system. It is also implicated in the treatment of infections, both internally and externally. Active ingredients include polyphenols, chicoric acid, caftaric, echinacoside, aklylamides and polysaccharides.
What Parts of E. purpurea are Used ?
Our extensive
ongoing research shows that active medicinal compounds are distributed throughout the aerial components as well as the root structure of the E. purpurea plant. We have determined that the use of Echinacea Purpurea in our tinctures may serve a purpose to further improve the quality of our product, testing is on-going.
