Echinacea Angustifolia

Echinacea angustifolia can be difficult to propagate, and as such, is not as readily recognizable and available as the E. purpurea plant. Three Feather Farms has perfected the propagation of E. angustifolia and has a quality supply available or in the pipeline at all times. Three Feather Farms uses primarily the root structure of Echinacea angustifolia for our unique tincture.
Echinacea Angustifolia – The Healing Plant
Historical accounts of Echinacea angustifolia often refer to an uncanny practice of elk, whereby wounded or sick animals would seek out and consume this narrow-leaf purple coneflower. Elk root, as it was often called, was the most commonly sought out medicinal herb by North American Plains Indians. Its use then spread throughout North America and Europe.
What is Echinacea Angustifolia?
Echinacea angustifolia is an herbaceous plant species that belongs to the Asteraceae family. This drought-tolerant perennial, which grows 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 inches) tall, has spindle-shaped taproots and hairy stems and leaves. Endemic to North American prairies, E. angustifolia blooms in late spring to midsummer.
Medicinal Properties of Echinacea Angustifolia
While it is typically the root of Echinacea angustifolia that is harvested for medicinal purposes, research at Three Feather Farms has shown active compounds to be present in other plant components as well. Chemical constituents associated with health benefits include chicoric and caftaric, both phenols, as well as echinacoside, aklylamides and polysaccharides. At Three Feather Farms, we extract these desirable compounds and include optimum proportions in our premium echinacea tincture.
